Bronze Age

1970-1988

After Walt Disney’s death, Disney Animation lost its focus. Without their leader, the animators weren’t sure how to recapture the charm of their earliest work.

Cheaper animation techniques continued to be used to make the animated movies profitable, but these lessened the animation quality and put off some viewers.

In the mid-1980s, it got even worse for Disney Animation as new “outside” management came in to have their say, and they had their first big financial flop with The Black Cauldron.

But they continued to move forward and spent time getting back to the basics of classic storytelling and lovable characters as they slowly but surely won back the public’s interest.
