Welcome to The Disney Purist Film Review Site!
The name – The Disney Purist. The dictionary definition of a “purist” is someone who insists on adherence to traditions, rules etc. In terms of being a “Disney purist”, it means different things to different people, and there’s been a lot of discussion about it online, which I do not want to get in to here.
For me, it’s just a joke-name I gave to myself when the live-action versions of the Disney animated classics started to come out. People started asking me whether I’d be watching them, and it was easier to give the answer “I’m a Disney Purist” than to really explain that if they aren’t going to be better than the animated classic, then what’s the point in seeing them?
Really, I am joking when I call myself a “Disney Purist” because it doesn’t mean much and it doesn’t reflect me personally. I don’t have super-strong opinions on changes to the Disney Parks. I don’t only like Disney projects that Walt Disney was involved in, and, although I don’t like the idea of the live-action remakes and haven’t seen many of them, I wouldn’t instantly say they aren’t worth watching.
So, if you’re a fan of Disney films, then take a look at some of the reviews that have been written so far. I’ve completed reviews on all 63 current Disney Animated Classics and am now moving on to Disney Channel and Pixar Movies. I’m also intermittently writing reviews of some Non-Disney Movies.
Reviews are posted weekly – more or less – so if your favourite is not yet up on the site, then stay tuned for more!
