Do you remember your first Disney Channel musical movie? I don’t – because there have been so many good ones over the years. I have no idea which one I saw first, but I know I’ve watched a lot of them.
These musical movies are probably the most popular type of DCOM, both with viewers of yesteryear and today, launching their stars into the mainstream, be that in acting, singing, dancing, or a combination of all three. Many 30-somethings still fondly remember the music of High School Musical, The Cheetah Girls, and Camp Rock, which made up the majority of Disney Channel’s musical entries in the 2000s.
Disney Channel musicals have gone from strength to strength over the decades, with the 2010s creating two new smash-hit franchises to rival the popularity of High School Musical, those being Descendants and ZOMBIES. Both have actually exceeded High School Musical in some ways, with not just two movies, or even three, but with four movies each, plus television spin-offs and plenty of merchandise.
But there are plenty of standalone Disney Channel musicals that have had success as well, so this is a page dedicated to all of them, great and small.
