Non-Disney Honourable Mentions

Variety is the spice of life, right?

Well, some years ago, my movie-going experiences were not particularly varied. I loved Disney movies, and the occasional comedy or rom-com, but little else, causing many people I know, even family members, to still think that all I watch is Disney movies. Creating this blog probably hasn’t help that stereotypical view of myself, but, to set the record straight, I watch much more than just Disney. My focus here is still Disney, but it seems only fair that the odd non-Disney movie should make an appearance every now and again, whether animation or live-action, although still family-friendly entertainment.

I also want to correct some mistruths that have existed around what movies are Disney, and which are not. In recent years, you might have felt like The Walt Disney Company are playing their own version of Monopoly with companies and film studios. In 2006, Disney acquired Pixar. In 2009, they purchased Marvel Entertainment. In 2019, they surprisingly managed to buy 20th Century Fox – or 21st Century Fox as it seems to be named now.

There are other studios, that remain untouched by Disney, that have made plenty of great films to rival Disney in both animation and live-action. Their time has come to stand up and be recognised as some of Disney’s greatest competition. We can’t let Disney win this Monopoly game.
